Never
Put your hat on a bed – it’s bad luck!
Put your hat down with the brim flat to a surface – all of the luck will fall out!
Leave your hat in a hot vehicle. Heat will cause the felt to shrink.
Lay a Smithbilt Hat on a flat surface with the brim down, this can cause the brim to lose its shape.
Hat Storage
Ideally use a hatbox or carrier to store your Smithbilt hat. For short term storage either:
Lay your hat on the crown, with the brim up.
Hang it on a hat stand.
Set it on the edge of a shelf, so the curl of the brim takes no weight.
If your hat will not be worn for a long time, place the hat in a plastic bag to prevent damage from dust.
Keep your hat in a cool, dry environment.
What to do if
Your hat is wet – Wear the hat until it mostly dries out (This will prevent it from shrinking as it dries). Do not place your hat in a plastic bag or hat box until it is completely dry.
Your hat is stained – Fine grit sand paper works on most colours of felt to get pesky stains out.
